To check according to your nationality

  • Valid passport 

  • Visa: Electronic Travel Authorization (E.T.A.) required - the demand has to be made on internet a few weeks / days before but not more than 3 months before

To check with your doctor

  • Vaccins: universal ones - diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis A and polio

  • Mosquitoes: it is recommended to use a repellent containig DEET on exposed parts of your body at morning and evening time

  • Water: avoid drinking tap water (there is free drinking water in the camp) 

  • If you don't have any health, travel and civil responsibility insurances, it is recommended to take one (ex: Word Nomads)

More information

  • Money: 1 € = ~150 Rs. We advice you to take some money before your trip and/or at the Colombo airport. The hotel accepts euros. It is recommended that you inform your bank of your trip before. 

  • Time difference (in february / march): 4h30 with West of Europe

  • Transportation: we can organize for you a shuttle from the airport. If you want to visit before or after the pole camp, it is recommended to travel with a driver guide and we can put you in contact with one

  • Clothes: if you plan to visit temples, you need to bring long sleeves or pareo

  • Anuradhapura (first established kingdom in ancient Sri Lanka)

  • Nuwara Eliya (old colonial town in the heart of the hill country and tea plantations)

  • Kandy (cultural capital of Sri Lanka, temple of the Tooth, traditional dance performance)

What to do in 10 days and more:

  • Same as in 5 days plus... 

  • Horton Plains (hiking)

  • Ella (little town surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations)

  • Mirissa (beautiful beach)

  • Galle (old town with fortifications, UNESCO World Heritage)

  • Arugam bay (beach and surf)

Weather forecast

  • The best time to visit the whole Sri Lanka is from mid January to April, even though Sri Lanka can be visited the whole year depending on where you want to go. 

  • The monsoon and the altitude make the weather vary during the year and from one part of Sri Lanka to another one. The Yala monsoon season happens in the South-West coast from May to August, while the weather stays good at the North of Colombo and in the East. The Maha monsoon season brings rain to the East, North and Ancient Cities from October to January. Apart from this, Sri Lanka benefits of a sunny and warm weather and the temperature varies from 20°C to 30°C in Kalpitya the whole year. 

  • In February, Kalpitiya has a thermic wind which blows at around 12-25 knots during afternoons. At this time of the year, the average air and water temperatures are 26°C.
